Job Brick Wall, Issue #011-- JibberJobber to the Rescue December 04, 2010 |
Hello Friends! Good to be with you again. This month I'm going to expose you to a fantastic website with a very unusual name...JibberJobber. JibberJobber is a free tool to help you manage your job search so nothing slips through the cracks. I'll tell you all about it in a minute, but before we go there, I have a couple of exciting announcements to share with you. Item 1: For the past year I've been writing a book for job seekers who are in desperate need of a breakthrough. You may have already read several worthy books about job hunting, or visited numerous websites. But, no matter what you do…nothing seems to work. What makes my book different from any other book or website about job hunting? It contains cutting edge ideas and actions steps that will work for you on both an intellectual and emotional level. You need equilibrium at both levels to enhance your job search prospects. Regardless of your job search dilemma, you undoubtedly are going through a very discouraging time. You may even be downright depressed about it. What's worse, all areas of your life may seem out of balance and unfulfilling right now. And that may be putting it mildly. Looking for a job is a gut-wrenching, emotional experience. Our feelings will either motivate us to take massive action, or paralyze us into avoiding what we know must be done. I'm going to be your guide and take you by the hand to make sure we turn over every rock to uncover what is holding you back from landing a job. We're starting with a clean sheet of paper. Every detail of the job search process will be examined to make sure you're in the right place, at the right time, with your best game face on. My book will be available through the home page on my website, no later than, January 15...sooner if I can complete the editing process earlier. I'll email you a special addition newsletter to announce its release. It will be available as an ebook for immediate download from my site (PDF, Kindle, Nook), or in paperback for those who like to read lying down wrapped in a warm blanket. Either way, I've made a special effort to provide you with a quality work to set you up for a breakthrough going into the new year. Item 2: I've also written a new webpage, How My Site Makes Money, for anyone who is interested in starting their own web business. It's not as complicated as you think, or expensive. My site only costs me $300 a year. Some people have even built a website around a hobby to just earn enough money each year to pay for a nice vacation. So, if you have special knowledge, a hobby, or simply feel passionate about something, building your own website could be like a part time job...only more fun. Other people have created web businesses that earn serious income. The sky is the limit depending on your goals and how hard you're willing to work at it. Item 3: Are you following my daily Job Interview Blog? I'm on the front lines of the job search war, and want to share with you my latest insights, pearls of wisdom, and website updates. My blogs are only 1 or 2 paragraphs, so they get right to the point. One good idea could literally change your world over night. You can bookmark my blog page, or it's a lot easier if you just link to my blog via RSS. RSS is totally safe and very convenient. There are instructions on how to set up an RSS feed on my blogpage. Click on the (?) on the orange RSS icon box in the left hand column. Happy Hunting...and keep smiling! Mike Petras Every adversity, every unpleasant circumstance, every failure, and every physical pain carries with it the seed of an equivalent benefit. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson JibberJobber to the RescueWhat the heck is JibberJobber? In a nutshell, JibberJobber is an on-line job search management tool developed by Jason Alba in 2006. When you first started your job search, keeping track of job leads, referrals, and where you sent your resume was pretty simple. You could use a spiral notebook, legal pad, or even floating pieces of paper. It was easy to remember the jobs you applied for and where you sent your resume. After a week of job hunting, things got a little more hectic, but you still could find your notes...kind of like the junk in the top drawer of your dresser, or a stack of papers on your desk. Fast forward one month. This is when it dawns on most folks that they really don't have a very organized way to keep track of their job search activities. You might have even experienced this embarrassing moment: Caller: Hello...is this Suzie Q? You: Yes it is. Caller: This is Ben Dover calling from Crash-a-Lot Computers. You: Um...ok...err...What can I do for you? Caller: You sent us your resume last month. You: Oh...yeah...right...Right! [sounds of paper shuffling] Caller: Are you still available and is this a good time to talk? You: Yeah...sure. [spitting out your gum] What did you say your name was? Caller: Ben Dover, the HR Manager. You: And...um...What was the name of your company again? Sorry... Caller: Crash-a-Lot Computers You: Hang on a minute while I check my notes [as your frantically rummage around trying to figure out why you sent your resume there]. Caller: Did I call you at a bad time? You: No!...no...I just need to...hold on a sec...ok here it is... This is exactly what will happen if you don't have some kind of a system that helps you pinpoint everyone you've called, mailed a resume, or emailed...and why. When one of the most important calls of your life comes in, you need to be prepared, calm, cool, and collected. You might be saying to yourself: I'm pretty organized and even use a nifty Excel spreadsheet with all my stuff on it. JibberJobber is 10 times better than a spreadsheet and even has hyperlinks to job descriptions, websites, and other crucial information. Best of all, JibberJobber is free because most job seekers are on a tight budget and a diet of Raman Noodles. However, once your career is back on solid ground, JibberJobber now becomes your career management tool since most people will change jobs every 3-5 years. Depressing thought, isn't it? JibberJobber even works in tandem with your social networking sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. So, you won't be duplicating your efforts. Jason Alba, the founder and CEO of JibberJobber, is trustworthy and will help you manage your career short term and long term. Here is a link to the home page: JibberJobber. Best place to start on their home page is the video introduction. Until next month...keep putting one foot in front of the other. Blue skies are on the horizon.
